New York Life
A team of talented recruiters from New York Life offered their insights and experiences on the topic of “Nailing the Interview”. Co-chair Gerri Bostick opened the July 8th session with her viewpoint that
interviewing is both an art and a science, and that each individual will present themselves in their own unique way. She introduced Patricia Gomez-Garcia, Talent Acquisition Diversity Strategist, who gave
an overview of the benefits of working at New York Life. Patricia then introduced Genevieve Bean who presented the panel of 9 recruiters representing different aspects of New York Life’s business units.
Genevieve also shared key aspects of the interviewing process and her recommendations. These included resume building tips such as attention to positive and professional language, types of questions to expect, and
the need for practice which enables confidence and enthusiasm. One of her key takeaways was that each student should focus on their own individual strengths and the value they can add to the specific organization.
This requires research on the organization and its culture, the reasons why they want to work for the company, and the ability to communicate persuasively.

Most of the WSE cohort felt that the richest part of the session were the 5 breakout sessions, each with a pair of recruiters In these smaller Zoom rooms, the students were able to see behind the proverbial curtain and get a sense of how recruiters
think, what some of their expectations are, and the best ways to ace the interview. They were also able to ask questions and learn from each other.
We extend our sincere thanks to New York Life’s recruiting team for an excellent session and for the company’s continuing support of the Wall Street Exchange Program.
