Celebrating a Month of Women
“There is no force more powerful than a woman determined to rise.” – W.E.B. Dubois
Dear FWA Members, Sponsors and Friends,
| Simone Vinocour
FWA President 2019-2020
1) The World
There is an old seasonal expression - March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. Given the market volatility we have been experiencing in the past week, I can only hope this holds true for the markets as much as the weather! We are seeing the effects of the coronavirus on equities, on economies and even the firms in which we work. While I am personally confident that the situation will normalize, none of us are sure when this will happen.
On Sunday, March 8th, the world will celebrate International Women’s Day, which is especially meaningful in this centennial year of women’s suffrage. Of course, for us in the FWA, celebrating the achievements of women is not confined to one day or one month, but instead is what we do throughout the year. It is what we have done for the past 64 years!
In recognition of the FWA’s role in Women’s History, members, leaders and supporters of the FWA had the honor of ringing the closing bell at NASDAQ on March 5th. We are determined to rise - together and be the change we want to see in the finance industry.

2) The FWA
In celebration of International Women’s Day, the FWA is launching its first podcast for members on Monday, March 9th at noon! Carson Tate will be focusing on Discovering Your Personal Productivity Style, together with our own Board member, Peggy Decker! This will be the first in a series of podcasts and webinars that enable you to connect and learn with the FWA, no matter where you are! Not a member? You can either join as a member (my wish!) or stay tuned for access to this terrific content for a nominal charge.
While you enjoy what is sure to be a busy Women’s History Month, here are a few of our upcoming events to include in your plans:
March 31st: Annual Directors Reception - Getting Personal: Responsibility of Boards for Executive Behavior.
April 2nd: Back2Business Workshop - This is the FWA’s premier returnship program
April 7th: FinTech Event at Pershing Technology - Floral Park, NJ
April 29th: Imagine: A Career and a Life! With Ellen Goldman - Parsippany, NJ
How are YOU going to mark International Women’s Day - not only on the 8th but throughout the month? No matter what your level, dedicate some time this month to going to that networking meeting and an FWA event.
Are you a member and have recently had a promotion or other accolade? Be sure to notify the FWA office, (firstname.lastname@example.org) as we look to recognize our members’ achievements.
Finally, continue to watch the markets, continue to learn one new thing a month, and enjoy this month dedicated to women!
