More than 40 attendees braved the storm to attend the Financial Women’s Association’s (FWA) Vision Lab: Empowering Yourself for Exponential Success workshop held on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at BNP Paribas’ offices located at 787 7th Avenue, NYC, NY.

Featuring executive coach, Kate Gardner, the event provided a tremendous opportunity for people at various career levels to take a strategic view of what they want to achieve, share knowledge on avoiding common pitfalls, and network with like-minded women.

Kate facilitated a dynamic and effective session. She started with a transformative exercise that paired up attendees and had them envision his or her “future” self three years from now. By articulating bold yet specific visions, participants circumvented the trap of an incremental 2x vision and created an exponential 10x vision with the excitement and energy needed to make that vision a reality.

Kate then addressed some of the obstacles that often prevent people from achieving their vision. She first encouraged everyone to take “ownership” of their careers and lives – rather than falling into “victim hood” when inevitable challenges arise. Her distinctions included:

  • Wanting vs. Creating – It’s not enough to just envision what you want; you have to commit to it and take action to create it.
  • Expertise vs. Recognition – Expertise alone is unlikely to win your next promotion. How will you make time to be seen and build the relationships with those who can help you go to the next big thing?
  • Building vs. Leveraging – Often women are reluctant to leverage the relationships they’ve built for their own benefit. But, it is impossible to build a big career without the help of others, many of whom may want to help.

Attendees learned how to easily develop their own concrete Vision Statement and actionable steps to achieve it, as well as gained knowledge about common career traps and how to avoid them – in their careers and civil and personal lives.

Participants with all levels of experience jumped in with powerful questions and eagerly helped each other with possible solutions. Everyone left with action steps for moving forward and inspiration to continue helping each other achieve their visions.
