COVID-19 and Its Impact on Everyday Life
You are invited to a special webinar where former FWA President, Ellen Sills-Levy, will share findings from two research studies conducted by her firm, ESL Insights, LLC, in late March and early May of 2020. Joining Ellen in this fascinating exploration into the changing COVID-19 mindset will be Ellen’s partner, and ESL Insights Principal, Claire Tinker.
ESL’s studies focused primarily on Baby Boomers, the population most at risk of succumbing to COVID-19. Younger participants were also included. Their research is unique in that it is a “deep dive” into what American consumers are experiencing and feeling in their own words – thus the truth of what’s really going on behind the numbers will be shared.
Other topics to be discussed:
- The financial and economic impact of COVID-19 and how we have been personally affected
- How people’s personal and professional lives have changed and how they are coping with the new realities of COVID-19;
- How technology has filled the very real need to connect with family and friends as well as how we have to continue with our working lives and careers;
- What are our biggest worries and concerns and how they are evolving over time;
- The level of emotional distress consumers are experiencing as everyone, collectively, goes through the COVID-19 experience, and the associated very real fear of dying;
- Resilience; and
- What ESL thinks the future may hold.

Founder and Client Insights Director, ESL Insights, LLC
Ellen Sills-Levy has 30+ years’ experience in marketing research and strategy encompassing a wide range of global sectors and categories including financial services, healthcare, technology, advertising and media. The sector where she has spent most of her career and where she personally feels most passionate is financial services. Her work includes: Women Investors, C-Suite executives, Financial Advisors, High Net Worth Individuals, Boomers, Millennials and Gen-Z.
Immediately after the 2008 crash, Ellen led a groundbreaking research project in 16 countries (including the U.S.) with Professors Anna-Maria Lusardi and Peter Tufano to assess financial literacy and financial fragility. Their work formed the foundation for building strategies for banks, insurance companies and wealth managers.
Ellen is a past President of the FWA (1982-1983) and remains involved in the organization. She joined the FWA when she was Director of Communications at Citibank, NA and led the team that created the iconic “Citi Never Sleeps Campaign”. For the past 8 years, she has been mentoring in the FWA-Baruch Mentoring Program.
Ellen is President of The Market Research Council, a long-term member of Women’s Forum of New York and Women in Research (WiRE).
Principal, ESL Insights, LLC
Claire has been an integral part of the ESL Insights team for more than 17 years, following a career in technology services where her responsibilities included operational support and utilizing metrics to improve operational performance. In her role at ESL Insights, Claire is responsible for much of the overall research design, managing fieldwork, client interface, and analysis and reporting of research results.
Sectors Claire has worked in include financial services, consumer package goods, technology, health & healthcare, performing arts, insurance, not-for-profit, among others.
Claire views market research as a “must have” in providing the strategic insights C-Suite executives will require as they respond to the demands of the post COVID-19 marketplace. She is convinced that understanding the COVID mindset will be critical for advertisers and companies in strengthening their brand and retaining their customer base in these times of enormous stress and uncertainty.

Simone Vinocour (moderator)

Highly regarded for her product and markets knowledge and demonstrated ability to build long-term relationships with clients, Simone Vinocour is a Financial Advisor with a US brokerage firm, and the current President and Chair of the Board of Directors of the FWA of New York, Inc. (FWA).
With over 20 years of progressive experience in helping multinational Fortune 500 corporate clients in the consumer products and retail, as well as pharmaceutical and medical device industries achieve their financial goals, she is using these same skills to provide wealth management services and solutions to a select group of individuals and families, corporate executives and business owners to achieve theirs.
As a recognized leader in diversity and inclusion initiatives, she also is passionate about empowering women in the financial services community and beyond to have the necessary skills for financial and professional success. Simone has been actively involved in the Financial Women’s Association since 2002, having served as President-Elect and Board Secretary previously. Prior roles served also include Co-Chair of the June 2017 Inaugural Summit (signature conference) and moderator of its and the 2018 Summit’s Global Capital Markets panel. Simone co-chaired the FWA’s 2011 International Conference in Brazil, co-chaired the Global Agenda Committee and served as Vice President for the organization prior to joining the Board. She continues to serve as a mentor to rising talent within the industry.
Simone’s extensive global experience gives her insight into how global markets impact investors. Simone obtained her MBA in Finance and International Management at New York University, Leonard N. Stern School of Business, and her B.S. in Business Administration at Georgetown University where she studied marketing and German. She additionally studied at Erasmus University, Rotterdam School of Management, completing the International Management Program. She continued to live and work in banking in the Netherlands for six years. Simone holds Series 7, 63, 66 and 79 certifications. With varying language proficiencies in Dutch, German and French, she is adept in building relationships worldwide across all cultures.
Simone presently resides in New York City with her husband and two children. In her free time she enjoys travel, jazz, and ballet. Simone also is on the Ministry Council of St. Ignatius Loyola parish in Manhattan and serves as the parish’s Chair of its Interfaith Ministry.
