2020 FWA International Business Conference - Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, Israel
ABOUT THE CONFERENCE*
We are pleased to announce that the Financial Women’s Association's (FWA) 2020 international business conference will be held in Israel from February 9th through February 14th, with options for travel both before and after the formal conference.
Unquestionably, Israel is a global center of innovation and technology and accordingly, the FWA’s international business conference will provide a unique opportunity to hear from innovators in a range of sectors, including life sciences, energy, fintech, food, social engagement, agribusiness, mobility, government regulators, trailblazing women and other business leaders about the current and future state of this “start-up nation” only 70 years old.
The prosperity of Israel's advanced economy allows it to have a sophisticated welfare state, modern infrastructure, and a high-technology sector competitively on par with Silicon Valley. Israel has the second-largest number of startup companies in the world (after the United States) and the third-largest number of NASDAQ-listed companies (after the U.S. and China.) The global demand for innovation has spread far beyond the usual technology sectors into so many other areas, enhancing the attractiveness of Israeli enterprises. Acquisitions by public and private U.S. companies rose from $3.7 billion to $12.9 billion in 2018 and the Israeli Stock Exchange just completed its IPO this year, making it an important destination for global capital investment.**
Israel is now a key player on the global business stage surging to 5th place in the Bloomberg Innovation Index of 2019. Israel is impressively innovative with major innovations throughout the country's major economic sectors including high-technology, financial services, energy, healthcare, agriculture and industrial manufacturing.
Numerous Israeli companies have been acquired by global corporations. With such an impressive track record for creating profit driven innovations/technologies, Israel has become the first choice for many of the world's leading entrepreneurs, investors, and industry giants. Intel, Microsoft, and Apple built their first overseas research and development facilities in Israel, and over 400 multi-national corporations, such as IBM, Google, Facebook, Toyota, Honda, Samsung, Amazon and SAP have opened Research & Development centers in this country. New York has a unique relationship with Israel, with many Israeli entrepreneurs and founders doing business here. The Cornell Technion Center on Roosevelt Island is a major educational force, and the State of New York has established formal relationships with Israel to foster innovation. During an economic mission to Israel in June of 2019, Governor Cuomo announced a $2 million partnership agreement with the Israel Innovation Authority for two new programs that will further strengthen economic development ties between New York State and Israel.
Israel also embraces the engagement of women in all sectors, with women playing leading roles in the securities industry, major corporations, the government, the media and the cultural sectors. We will meet many of these women. We hope that you will consider joining our delegation. This will be the trip of a lifetime!
