Sponsoring A Member

A major goal of the FWA is to attract and retain the best members the financial community has to offer. We welcome and encourage individuals who will bring to the organization the same professionalism, dedication and abilities that have served them well in their careers.

Below are the procedures for sponsoring a candidate for membership. The role of sponsorship shall be considered seriously by the Proposer. It is expected that a Sponsor will introduce the candidate to as many members as possible, both during the admission process and during the first year of membership.

1. The Proposer is responsible for ensuring that the applicant meets the membership requirements listed below and attends two FWA events before distributing the application to the candidate.

To qualify as a Full Member, an applicant must be directly employed in a clearly defined financial position (including financially oriented and senior level recruiting) or be involved within the parameters of her career in financially defined professional responsibilities and have been employed within these definitions for at least two years with an MBA degree and four years without.
2. Each candidate must have one Proposer and two Sponsors.
3. The Proposer and one of the Sponsors must have been FWA members for more than one year.
4. Two of the three Proposer/Sponsors canl be employed at the same company.
5. The Proposer requests the application form from the FWA office or from the Co-Chairs of the Membership Committee or download the Membership Application Form* [Select format: PDF or MSWord form].
6. The candidate, having met the membership requirements, will fill out the application. The Proposer will then submit to the FWA Office or the Membership Committee Chairs the following package:

  • a fully completed and reviewed application form and
  • a letter of recommendation.
Note: The application MUST clearly identify the applicant's financial experience.

To expedite the Committe review process, please send the application, CV and letter of recommendation via email to FWAoffice@fwa.org. Follow-up signed documents can be forwarded to the FWA office but are not required.
7. The Membership Committee will contact the two Sponsors by phone to verify their recommendation of the candidate.
8. A representative from the Membership Committee will then interview the applicant. (This requirement is waived if the Proposer or one of the Sponsors is on the Membership Committee.)
9. The Membership Committee will then review the candidate at the next monthly Meeting Committee meeting.
10. Upon acceptance, the candidate is then notified by the Membership Committee.

If you have any questions regarding the procedures for sponsoring a new membership requirements in general, contact Executive Director, Nancy Sellar, or the Membership Committee Co-Chairs before encouraging a potential member to apply.
