Rave reviews of the 2012 FWA Annual Dinner and 28th Women of the Year Awards continue to come in from corporate sponsors, FWA members and guests. Nearly 600 people gathered at the Grand Hyatt New York to celebrate 36 years of the FWA of New York Educational Fund and this year's honorees, Maria Bartiromo, Anchor, CNBC's "Closing Bell" and Anchor/Managing Editor of "Wall Street Journal Report with Maria Bartiromo" and Paula Gavin, President, National Urban Fellows, Inc. The honorees each spoke about the importance of mentoring, sponsorship, and helping other women up the corporate ladder.
The two student speakers, Ladyane Lima representing the FWA-Baruch College mentoring program, and Jasmine Mangum of the FWA-Murry Bergtraum High School mentoring program, each shared their experiences of being mentored by FWA members.
FWA President Anne Izzillo kicked off the evening by introducing the distinguished guests on the dais –the two honorees, senior executives representing the 20 firms in the FWA President's Circle and bestowed the title of Executive Director Emeritus to the soon-to-be retired Executive Director Nancy Sellar. Tyler Mathisen of CNBC emceed the evening.
Ellen Jewett, representing BMO Capital Markets, announced that once again the FWA will be a beneficiary of its Equity Through Education Day of Trading in September. BMO Capital Markets supports initiatives to increase diversity in the financial sector and to better prepare students for the workforce. The FWA is grateful for over $1.5 million it has received over the past seven years to support undergraduate scholarships and educational programs.
