Rave reviews of the 2011 FWA Annual Dinner and 27th Women of the Year Awards continue to come in from corporate sponsors, FWA members and guests. Nearly 600 people gathered at the Grand Hyatt New York to celebrate 35 years of the FWA of New York Educational Fund and this year's honorees, Irene Dorner, President and CEO of HSBC Bank USA, and Sylvia Ann Hewlett, Founding President of the Center for Work-Life Policy. The honorees each spoke about the importance of mentoring, sponsorship, and helping other women up the corporate ladder.
The two student speakers, Nancy Mui representing the FWA-Baruch College mentoring program, and Sequenza Williams of the FWA-Murry Bergtraum High School mentoring program each shared their experiences of being mentored by FWA members Mary Greenebaum and Eloner Habtezghi, respectively.
FWA President Susan Ganz kicked off the evening by introducing the distinguished guests on the dais –the two honorees, senior executives representing the 20 firms in the FWA President's Circle, FWA charter member Joan Farr, and Sue Herera of CNBC who emceed the evening.
Pat Cronin, representing BMO Capital Markets, announced that once again the FWA will be a beneficiary of its Equity Through Education Day of Trading in September. BMO Capital Markets supports initiatives to increase diversity in the financial sector and to better prepare students for the workforce. The FWA is grateful for the $1.246 million it has received over the past six years to support undergraduate scholarships and educational programs.
