On December 5, 2010 the Mentoring Committee hosted a fun filled Holiday Event with mentors and mentees from Murry Bergtraum High School and Baruch College. We started with dim sum at Chinatown Brassiere near Astor Place, followed by a lively performance of the Blue Man Group.
One highlight of the event was when Maria Tejada, a MBHS mentee, was selected to go on stage with the Blue Men!
This is what Maria had to say about her unforgettable experience:
"The Blue Man Concert was a life changing experience for me. It's hard to believe that I was one of the lucky audience members that they choose to go on stage with them. When they first took my hand, I was shy and kept shaking my head saying that I didn't want to go. However, with everyone cheering me on I gave in to the excitement and went on stage.
The energy was amazing, and the thrill of being on stage was overwhelming. It made me feel like I belonged there on stage, especially since I'm also an aspiring musician. After the show many people asked if I was part of the show because they thought I was great on stage with them. I got the chance to take pictures with the Blue Man Group and one of them even "autographed" one of my pictures by kissing it leaving a pair of blue lips printed in the picture." |
MBHS mentees Gia Ventour and Takiyah Harris had this to say:
| "The Blue Man Group is a fantastic show for people of all ages. It is very entertaining and vivid. The colors are very bright and everything is well rehearsed. The music is very loud and up tempo. This show keeps the audience at the edge of their seat the whole time. It's the perfect show to take the young ones. Even the adults might catch themselves smiling and clapping their hands every now and then during the show." |
A good time was had by all!
