Current Affairs Committee Events Highlight Domestic and Global Concerns

The Current Affairs Committee has presented two sold-out events to members this fall to achieve the objective of building understanding of today’s hot topics and raising member awareness of tomorrow’s challenges in the financial markets.

The Current Affairs Committee presented its inaugural event “Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act” on September 23rd at an early morning presentation at Deloitte. Ms. Randi Brosterman, Principal within Deloitte Consulting LLP Financial Services Industry Practices and Thomas Rollauer, Director of Governance, Regulatory & Risk Strategies Practices at Deloitte discussed the extensive ramifications this new law will have on the banking, asset management, insurance and securities businesses. They also provided insight and suggestions to participants on adapting to new requirements during the question and answer portion of their presentation.

BNP Paribas provided a group of panelists to discuss the global impact of current European economic measures at a presentation titled “The Economic Outlook for the European Union” on October 7th at their New York headquarters. FWA member Simone Vinocour welcomed FWA members and guests to the panel presentation, which was moderated by Jean-Yves Fillion, an FWA Member who heads the North American Client Coverage Division within BNP Paribas’ Corporate & Investment Banking Division.

The panelists included business leaders based in the US and France who offered different perspectives on resolution of the sovereign debt crisis, market indication and the overall impact of the global recession. The panelists included Julia Coronado, BNP Paribas Chief Economist in North America, Martin Egan, BNP Paribas global head of primary markets, Sebastien Galy, FX research function head and Laure Morsy, Global Head of Financial Institutions Coverage from Paris, France.

The Current Affairs Committee is planning additional programs throughout the year and invites you to join them for a continuing conversation on the Dodd Frank Act on November 16.
