Boards, Board Committees & You: FWA Event Helps Match Volunteers With Not-for-Profits - A sold-out event
A record turnout of more than 85 FWA members and non-members gathered at Alliance-Bernstein to hear Diahann Billings-Burford, Chief Service Officer of New York City, and to meet with representatives from seven not-for-profit organizations at the September 14 Board Match Up event, organized by the FWA’s Not-For-Profit Committee.

Ms. Billings-Burford, who was the keynote speaker at the event, described the formation of the New York City Service Corps and Mayor Bloomberg’s commitment to volunteer service within the City. “We want to make New York the easiest place to serve, to focus the energies of our volunteers on the city’s most pressing areas of need and to help promote culture in New York,” she said. She also challenged the audience to use their talents and skills for good: “We want to engage New Yorkers in ways that will help enhance not-for-profits throughout the city. What skills can you use to help make New York stronger?”

The evening event also gave attendees the opportunity to network with senior executives from organizations covering a wide range of causes, including Dance Entropy; Family Focus Adoption Services; Historic House Trust; Girl Scouts Council of Greater New York; Older Adults Technology Services, Inc. (OATS); SHARE; and the Urban League.
