FWA receives a generous gift from Harris Nesbitt

We have some fabulous news to share on the generosity of the Harris Nesbitt New York toward the Financial Women's Association.

Each year, Harris Nesbitt New York, a division of the Bank of Montreal, donates one day's worth of institutional equity trading commissions to its Equity through Education program. This new charitable program is designed to raise money for students who demonstrate academic promise but lack the support and means to pursue opportunities which can only be achieved through education. And this year, the FWA Educational Fund was one of three lucky organizations selected for that honor.

By a wonderful coincidence May 11 was the commission donation day. At the Annual Dinner that night, we acknowledged their generosity and mentioned that while the results were not yet in, we anticipated a grant of $50,000. You can imagine our surprise the next day when the day's tally came in and we learned that the FWA Educational Fund will receive

$200,000!!

We will be using this amazing gift to create and implement an undergraduate scholarship program at Baruch College. We were particularly delighted to have both Ellen Costello, Vice Chairman of Harris Nesbitt, and Kathleen Waldron, the president of Baruch, as guests on the dais at the dinner when we announced that we would be using this then-unknown amount of funding for a project at Baruch! And we know that hearing the remarks from Salome Makharadze, the undergraduate representing the FWA mentoring program at Baruch, made everyone confident that these students are a wonderful investment.

While we do wholly believe that Harris Nesbitt could not have selected a better recipient than the FWA Educational Fund, we are in awe of their generosity. And we are just so proud that our great relationship with Baruch College allows us to benefit their students in this way.
