FWA Highlights - Microfinance Symposium January 22, 2005

FWA Hosts Microfinance Symposium at the United Nations.
The threat of a serious blizzard could not keep more than 150 attendees from the FWA's day-long Microfinance Symposium at the awe-inspiring United Nations building on Saturday, January 22.
The program coincided with the UN's January launch of the "Year of Microcredit" and commemorated FWA past president Lenore Albom, an early champion of microcredit programs. More than 15 expert speakers from all corners of the globe provided a lively discussion around the state of microcredit and its impact — today and in the future.
Highlights included remarks by Christina Barrineau chief technical advisor, UNCDF Microfinance Unit, Elizabeth Littlefield, director of the World Bank’s Consultative Group to Assist the Poorest (CGAP) and Nancy Barry, president of Women's World Banking.
Special thanks goes to Citibank for its sponsorship of a pre-conference cocktail reception for speakers and other guests, to UBS for its major sponsorship of the UN event, to McGraw-Hill for its underwriting of 20 college and graduate student attendees and finally, to the Microcredit Institute, under FWA member Barbara Merrell, for its contribution and support.
