|2012 Lenore C. Albom Microfinance Giving Program
The Lenore Albom Microfinance Giving Program is the legacy left to the FWA by Lenore Albom, a former FWA President and visionary who understood the power that microfinance has to transform women's lives. The promise of microfinance is one of empowerment— empowering low-income women and men through access to credit to invest and grow their businesses, provide for their families, and support their communities.

To show its ongoing support for the crisis in Haiti, the FWA will once again direct the Lenore Albom Microfinance Giving Program to Fonkoze, the largest microfinance institution in Haiti. Fonkoze has over 50,000 borrowers and 200,000 savers across the country.
We are urging FWA members and friends to help the FWA
raise $10,000 in funds for Fonkoze.

Two year after the earthquake, Haiti's people continue to suffer and the country's shattered infrastructure, both physical as well as financial, continues to be weak. Within this context, Fonkoze has showed remarkable resilience and speed in its own recovery.
Following the devastating January 2010 earthquake, one of Fonkoze's principal objectives was to strengthen and expand its programs that support Haiti's very poorest residents. Those two programs, Ti Kredi ("Little Loan") and Chemen Lavi Miyò (CLM), which means "Pathway to a Better Life," comprise the first two steps on Fonkoze's Staircase Out of Poverty. These programs were created specifically to target extremely poor women who would otherwise not be able to receive Fonkoze's traditional microfinance loans. Both programs are characterized by close accompaniment that aims to help women develop the skills and confidence to leave extreme poverty behind.
Fonkoze is raising funds to expand its Ti Kredi program and target 1,000 women who are graduating this spring from CLM. In keeping with FWA's mission of supporting professional women advance their careers, the 2012 Lenore C. Albom Microfinance Giving Program will help support these very important programs. The donation will be unrestricted, so that it can be applied by Fonkoze's to its most critical needs.
All donation amounts are welcome!
