Exciting Volunteer Opportunity to Work with High School Students

The FWA Financial Backpack Committee develops and delivers financial literacy programs for high school students. The HSBC Foundation has given the FWA a generous grant of $900,000 to fund a robust and expanded five-year program for Financial Backpack. The first offering of this exciting program was launched in November 2008. We are now seeking volunteers to assist at the spring 2010 seminars, which will be held on two weekends: Sunday April 25th and Saturday, May 8th. Advance training for these seminars, which is required, will be held on Thursday, April 15 for the April 25th seminar, and Tues, April 20 for the May 8th seminar.

Volunteers will be part of a teaching team, which will include a NYC high school teacher and a Baruch college student. They will be assigned to classrooms of 20 students– primarily juniors and seniors-- who are participants in the Virtual Enterprise Program, a program offered by the New York City Department of Education. Virtual Enterprise teaches students how to run businesses and be good employees by working in teams to run simulated businesses.


Volunteers are also needed for both workshops to help out with workshop management, which will entail registering students, distributing giveaways and coordinating other tasks.

Note: You don’t need to volunteer for both workshops but do need to attend training for the specific workshop for which you register. Volunteers for logistics do not have to attend the training sessions.
