Mentoring Program Needs You
FWA’s highly acclaimed College Mentoring Program at Baruch College will mark its fifth anniversary this spring.  Although not all FWA members have the time to fully commit to the one-on-one relationship that lies at the heart of the mentoring program, did you know that you can still contribute to the program’s success by volunteering to be a guest speaker, or to be a session organizer?

Panelist lead an engaging discussion.
(l to r): Betsy Werley, FWA Past Predent (2003-04), Sheila Wellington and FWA Member Maggie Craddock.
Past presenters have found it tremendously satisfying and stimulating to work with the 35 mentees at one of the half-dozen on-campus and off-campus luncheons, or breakfasts held each academic year. Group sessions have covered a wide spectrum of topics ranging from career paths to wardrobe and presentation skills.

FWA member Ann Cahill shares her wisdom with an eager mentee.
Potential session topics for the coming academic year include: financial careers in the non-profit arena and social etiquette (including dining protocol and handling of sensitive topics in business situations). However, the co-chairs are always on the lookout for new and exciting ideas. In addition to contributions by individuals, we would be delighted to work with firms willing to host the group at a breakfast or after-work session at their corporate offices.

Below is a round-up of the programs featuring guest presenters over the past four years. Note that we sometimes feature a reprise of a particularly popular session.

Meetings are held once a month from 12:30 to 2:00 on Thursdays in Baruch’s Vertical Campus at 24th and Lexington. Breakfasts may be held off campus at a sponsoring corporation. Any FWA member with a particular skill, work experience, or perspective who would be willing to be featured at an upcoming mentoring meeting should feel free to contact either of the program co-chairs Kristin McDonough (kmcdonough@nypl.org) or Maggie Stumpp (Margaret.stumpp@qmassociates.com).
