Join John Scott of FoxNews (panel moderator) and the Government Affairs committee for an educational and insightful evening spent with a panel of experts exploring the problems facing the mortgage industry. This event will provide a wide-ranging view of the mortgage industry, the roots of its dysfunction, the circumstances and missteps that caused the recent meltdown, the lessons learned from the debacle, and the way ahead to a responsible, functional and prosperous mortgage industry.
In many ways, the success of the economic recovery in our country is significantly impacted by the mortgage industry. Our panel of experts will give participants an edge up in understanding a key segment of our current business environment as well as being able to more precisely predict the future course of the mortgage industry.
Panelists' Profile
Fabiola Camperi is Managing Director of RangeMark Credit Risk Management, an affiliate of Ambac. In this capacity, Camperi’s primary responsibility is to create, deploy and manage a servicing strategy to minimize losses and exposure related to Ambac’s residential mortgage back securities. Prior to joining Ambac and Rangemark, Camperi was President of Option One Mortgage Corporation, where she served in a variety of executive roles including Chief Servicing Officer (CSO). As CSO, Camperi developed and managed one of the largest and best regarded servicing and sub-servicing platforms in the country. Camperi has worked at KPMG as an Audit Manager and practicing Certified Public Accountant serving the financial services industry.
John Draghi is Managing Director at Fortress Investment Group. In this capacity, he focuses on investments in residential and commercial mortgage backed securities as well as related investments. Mr. Draghi was previously CEO of C-BASS, having joined at the firm’s formation in July 1996. From 1985 to 1993, Mr. Draghi was with Lehman Brothers, where from 1985 to 1990, Mr. Draghi was a Vice President in the structured finance group where he structured some of the early credit arbitrage transactions involving residential mortgage loans. Mr. Draghi received a B.S./B.A. from Boston University. Mr. Draghi is a Certified Public Accountant.
Karen Gelernt, Partner at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP. Gelernt’s practice involves the representation of domestic and foreign banks, investment banks, and other financial institutions in a variety of financing, mortgage and other financial asset transactions. Gelernt has substantial experience in structuring and negotiating warehouse lines, repurchase agreements, and other financing structures, including rewarehousing and repledge facilities. Gelernt is the author of the treatise Secondary Market Residential Mortgage Transactions (Thompson Financial 2008.)
Miles Cary Leahey is Senior Managing Director with Decision Economics, a consulting firm with offices in New York, Boston, and London. He writes regularly for the daily and weekly publications for client readership. He has appeared on the major media outlets including BBC and CNBC and is frequently quoted in the press. Previously, he served as Senior Economist at Deutsche Bank Securities, Senior Economist and Managing Director at Primark Decision Economics, Chief U.S. Economist at High Frequency Economics and as Chief Financial Markets Economist at Lehman Brothers, where he served as the senior "Fed-watcher." His previous employment also included stints with GM, Data Resources and the White House's OMB and CEA staffs. He earned a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania and is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Clark University. . He has been listed in Who's Who in Finance and Industry since 1987 and Who’s Who since 1999.
Jon Scott (moderator) is the co-anchor for FOX News’ “Happening Now.” Scott joined FOX News Network in October of 1996, two months prior to its launch. Before joining FNC, Scott was the host of “A Current Affair,” the syndicated newsmagazine. Scott was a correspondent for “Dateline NBC,” from 1992 through 1995, and received an Emmy for news writing. From 1988 to 1992, Scott served as a reporter for “Inside Edition.”
