Network, Lunch, and Learn more about in-home care for those you love at the February Working Moms Luncheon! As members of the “Sandwich Generation” many of us are caring for children and at times our parents all while working full-time. Joan Friedman will provide us with new strategies for handling these challenges.

Joan Friedman is the co-owner of A Choice Nanny. She has been consulting on a face-to-face basis with New York families, discussing communication issues, developing work agreements, advising on norms, market trends, compensation packages, contingency plans, and strategies for coping with the ongoing challenges of working parenthood.

In addition to her daily work with individual parents, Joan has engaged with many varied groups: as speaker at the Pre-Natal Yoga Center, panelist for Women in Cable, workshop presenter at Expectant and New Parent Expo, moderator for the International Nanny Association, and exhibitor at maternity fashion show. She has also participated in a number of work/life fairs for financial services firms and law firms.

Read through the questions below, e-mail any others to janegiaquinto@yahoo.com, and then join us for sandwiches and an interactive program on Tuesday 2/23 at noon.

  1. On a scale of 1 to 10, how satisfied are you with your current childcare arrangements?
  2. Does any aspect of your current child-care arrangements cause you worry, resentment, or distress?
  3. From your own experience, what advice would you give to a colleague who needs childcare?
  4. Looking back, have your childcare needs changed over time? Looking forward, what changes do you anticipate?
  5. Have you ever told a fib/white lie to your boss because of a childcare crisis?
  6. In the event of a last-minute breakdown in your usual childcare arrangements, what back-up plan do you have in place?
  7. On a scale of 1 to 10, how satisfied are you with your ability to manage a family caregiver or household help?
  8. If you were unexpectedly bedridden or hospitalized for an extended period of time, what would your family game plan be?
  9. Have you taken or are you planning to take any steps to prepare for the future care of your parent(s)?
  10. With all your responsibilities, what are you not getting to do for yourself that you would like to be doing?
