Speaker Profiles

Moderator: Maureen Adolf
Corporate Vice President, External Affairs
The Prudential Insurance Company of America

Maureen E. Adolf is Corporate Vice President and Deputy in charge of External Affairs for The Prudential Insurance Company of America. With a staff of regional and corporate lawyers and lobbyists, as well as retained lobbyists, Ms. Adolf is primarily responsible for managing state regulatory affairs and legislative activities and the formulation of Company positions on public policy issues. She is involved in the development of strategies to win critical regulatory support for Company programs, products and initiatives both in the states and in Washington, DC.

Ms. Adolf joined Prudential in 1983 as the Company’s chief lobbyist in New York State. Prior to joining Prudential, Ms. Adolf was in the Government Affairs Department at HSBC, where she was responsible for representing the Bank’s interests in Albany and before the New York State Banking Department. Before joining the bank, Ms. Adolf worked for the New York State Assembly on the Speaker’s Program and Committee Staff from 1978-1981.

Ms. Adolf is a member of the Insurance Regulation Steering Committee, the Deputies Committee of the Executive Committee, the NAIC Relations Subgroup and the State Policy Oversight Committee of the American Council of Life Insurers.


Panelist: Ann S. Costello
Managing Director, Government Affairs
Goldman Sachs

Ann Costello is co-head of US Government Affairs for Goldman Sachs in Washington, D.C., where she oversees the firm's interactions and relationships with federal, state and local government officials. She joined Goldman Sachs in 1997 as a vice president and was named Managing Director in 2004. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Costello was a partner at the law firm of Williams & Jensen, PC, specializing in a financial services legislative practice. She is a member of the Board of Directors of Women’s Policy, Inc., the bipartisan caucus organization for women in the United States Senate and House.

Ms. Costello earned a JD from The National Law Center, George Washington University, in1979 and a BA in French Literature from Duke University in 1972. She and her husband, John, have two children and live in Bethesda, Maryland.


Panelist: Linda Rich
Senior Vice President, Government Relations
NYSE Euronext

Linda Dallas Rich, Senior Vice President of Government Relations at NYSE Euronext, is responsible for the development and execution of the firm’s public policy strategy and relations with U.S. government officials in Congress, the Administration, and regulatory agencies such as the Securities and Exchange Commission and Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Ms. Rich, who joined the company in 2004, has held this position through the transition of the company from a member-owned equities exchange to its current state as a public, global, multi-product company with equities, options, and futures exchanges.

Prior to joining NYSE Euronext, Ms. Rich worked on Capitol Hill for nine years, most recently as Senior Counsel to the Financial Services Committee of the House of Representatives under Chairman Michael G. Oxley. Prior to her government service, she was an associate at the law firm of Ropes & Gray. She received her J.D. with honors from the National Law Center at George Washington University in 1990, and her A.B. from Brown University in 1985. Ms. Rich, her husband and three young sons live in The Plains, Virginia.


Panelist: John Savercool
Managing Director & Senior Lobbyist
UBS Americas

John Savercool serves as Senior Lobbyist and Managing Director of UBS Americas Inc., which covers all of the primary business units within UBS, including the Investment Bank, Wealth Management and Global AM (asset management). In this capacity, John directs the firm’s lobbying, political, and policy advocacy efforts at the federal level. He manages a staff of six in Washington in support of this mission.

Mr. Savercool is a veteran of Capitol Hill of 23 years. He began his career with U.S. Congressman Mike Oxley, a Republican from Ohio and former chairman of the House Financial Services Committee. John then embarked on a 17-year career with then-U.S. Congressman Phil Gramm (R-TX), who won election to the U.S. Senate in 1984. John also served as chief of staff for U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) in 1993, who won a special election that year. In his long Senate career, John focused on a number of legislative and policy issues, primarily in the international trade and technology areas. John was tapped to be the vice president for federal affairs for the American Insurance Association (AIA) in 1999 and served in that capacity until 2003. While at the AIA, John spearheaded the insurance industry’s efforts in passing the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act of 2002. He also led the industry’s efforts to open new markets for U.S. property and casualty insurance products abroad, specifically in China and India.


Panelist: Janet St. Amand
Senior Vice President, Federal Government Relations
HSBC North America

Janet St. Amand is Senior Vice President for Federal Government Relations for HSBC -North America in Washington, D.C. Her government relations responsibilities include working closely with Congress and the Administration on issues of importance to HSBC-North America, primarily in the areas of taxes and banking. Ms. St. Amand came to HSBC when it acquired Household International in 2003 and had been with Household since 1993. Prior to that she served as legislative counsel to the Financial Services Council (FSC); J.P. Morgan; and the American Bankers Association. On Capitol Hill, she served as legislative counsel to Congressman (now Senator) Tom Carper (D-DE), Congressman Jim Coyne (R-PA) and Senator John Heinz (R-Pennsylvania).

Janet served on the Board of Women in Housing and Finance and as a Board Member and President of the Women in Housing and Finance Foundation. She was a member of the Board of Trustees of Arcadia University. Janet is currently a member of the Tax Coalition, the Tax Council, the Exchequer Club, and Women in Housing and Finance.

Janet received her bachelor of arts with honors from Arcadia University, Glenside, Pennsylvania, and received her law degree from Georgetown University Law Center. She is a member of the Bars of the District of Columbia and New York. Janet has two sons, Nick and Peter. They live in the Chevy Chase section of Washington, DC.
