Mingle with the artists during an intimate preview of the Juilliard School’s annual spring dance series, put on especially for the FWA and other invited guests. Lawrence Rhodes, Artistic Director of the Dance Division, will be our host for this preview of the public performances to be held March 26 to 30. The master class event will feature pieces by Martha Graham, Aaron Copland, José Limón, and Antony Tudor set to piano and violin accompaniment. Guests will observe the intimate technique class, which is not open to the general public.
Prior to the program, FWA members will have the opportunity to tour the school which includes dozens of rehearsal studios, practice rooms, teaching studios, and theater and learn more about its storied history. Following the dance program, Juilliard’s dancers, musicians, and faculty will meet and mingle with guests.
The Juilliard School celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2005 as a pioneer in the American conservatory movement. Van Cliburn was a Juilliard student when he shocked the world by winning the first Tchaikovsky piano competition. Among the Dance Division’s alumni are the noted choreographers and dance company directors Lar Lubovitch, Paul Taylor, Bruce Marks, Susan Marshall, and Martha Clarke. You won’t want to miss this very special event for which attendance is limited.
Special thanks to the Juilliard School Dance Division for hosting this program and to Sanem Alkan.
This event is organized by the Lifestyles Committee.
