Committee Description

The Committee founders and former co-chairs are Deborah Kaye (The Bank of New York Mellon) and Elzbieta Cieslik (GFI Group Inc.).

Our main event last fiscal year was the very successful 2011 Trailblazers Celebration (March 2011) sponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and hosted by the New York County Lawyers' Association. In 2010, the committee organized the event, Time, Talent and Money: Angel Investing Program (May 2010), hosted by UBS Met Life.

It's important to have a valuable, enriching volunteer experience as an FWA member. Committee participation can enhance the value of FWA membership. Our committee dinner meetings twice a year give members an opportunity to get to know each other better.
- Cheryl Gorman and Susan Migliaccio, Committee Co-chairs

The committee meets by telephone conference call at 4 pm on the second Tuesday of each month. The committee has two in person meetings each year in January and July, which includes dinner.

The 2011 Trailblazers Celebration program featured prominent women in law who hold the honored distinction of being among the first women in private or government practice to attain an influential senior level position in the legal profession. The program explored our trailblazers' professional paths to success, challenges and obstacles faced, and provided recommendations to attendees who seek senior level positions.

Featured women included: Judith S. Kaye, Chief Judge of the New York Court of Appeals (1993-2008), now Of Counsel with Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom ; Sheila Davidson, General Counsel, New York Life; Susan Merrill, former head of enforcement at the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), now with Bingham McCutchen; and Susan Blount, Senior Vice President and General Counsel Law, Compliance, and Business Ethics, Prudential Financial, Inc. and moderated by Susan L. Harper, Esq., Baritz & Colman, LLP and immediate past GC of FWA.

The professional development program offered 2 CLE credits to attendees through the New York County Lawyers' Association.
